Corporate Financial Services 


Corporate Financial Services’ purpose is to provide the dedicated service and expertise that our corporate and middle market clients expect. We offer an unrivalled range of banking and financial services, from everyday business accounts to flexible finance and sophisticated wealth management strategies.

Corporate Financial Services is made up of four teams, Corporate Banking, Wealth Management, Banking Specialists and Market Specialists.

Corporate Banking provides financial services to a broad cross section of corporate clients. The sales and service strategy is based on a relationship management model.

The Wealth Management team provides wealth management, financial planning, investment and income protection advice and services to clients.

The Banking Specialists team helps meet the needs of business clients across a range of specialist product areas, as this team brings together the network sales teams from Working Capital Services, Asset Finance and Receivables Finance.

The Market Specialists team helps meet the needs of its clients across key market and industry segments including Franchising, Financial Planning Banking and Healthcare. The team works closely with Risk, Group Risk Management and other areas to ensure that its offer is market leading. Additionally, this team provides advice and transaction assistance via the Specialist Property, Acquisition Finance & Advisory, and Accounting & Legal Teams.

Business or Commerce related degrees are preferred, with majors in Accounting, Finance or Statistics.

Enterprise Services (ES) 


Enterprise Services brings together the Commonwealth Bank’s information technology and banking operations functions to deliver the highest levels of customer service through world-class process excellence and technology innovation.

Enterprise Services is the Commonwealth Bank’s engine room, committed to delivering available, reliable, consistent technology solutions for internal and external customers. Our team works to deliver technology and operational excellence, with a key focus on customer service, innovation and exceptional execution. The technology teams provide services ranging from essential tools for our people right through to innovative product platforms for our customers, including NetBank and CommSec. Our Operations teams leverage technology to utilise process excellence principles to drive timely, error-free processing which is an essential component of the value proposition we offer our customers.

Our combined service-centric operating model is based on three key foundations - Continued Business Alignment, Service Transformation and Leveraging Shared Services.

Financial Services (Finance) 


Financial Services provides specialist advice, strategies, information and policies on financial and capital management matters, as well as comprehensive investor relations.

Our finance teams provide financial support to our Board, our shareholders and a vast number of businesses. The finance teams work closely with all areas of the Commonwealth Bank and assist in setting the overall Group strategy. The team consists of a range of finance and accounting professionals involved in:

  • Performance Measurement - Helping the Bank understand and manage the performance of its various businesses.
  • Advice - Advising each business unit about project management, as well as providing services including consulting, taxation advice, decision support, management information system design and competitor analysis.
  • Governance - Ensuring that the appropriate levels of financial control and governance are maintained, including management of regulatory projects.

Our objective is to be recognised as the finest provider of financial services through partnering with the business in maximising shareholder value.

We have four strategic priorities for the next year: customer service, operational excellence, profitable growth and trust and team spirit. These strategic priorities will ensure that we remain a trusted advisor to the business and contribute to achieving value for our shareholders.

We are also involved in the delivery of many major projects over the next year, including the integration of Bankwest, updating our finance systems and continuing to support the Core Banking Modernisation project.

Along with our day-to-day role in supporting the business, we have also been part of a number of key deals over the last 12 months, including our acquisition of Bankwest and St Andrew’s, for which we were awarded the coveted 2009 CFO Magazine M&A Deal of the Year.

Human Resources 


Human Resources supports each of the Group’s business units by providing expert strategic advice and support on a range of topics, including recruitment, remuneration benefits, leadership development training and Occupational Health and Safety.

We have a centralised model to provide Human Resources support across the entire Group. At the Commonwealth Bank, Human Resources is organised into specialist areas and business unit teams.

The specialist areas focus on developing Bank-wide policies and initiatives, and providing expert advice. These areas are:

  • Reward & Measurement, which includes Officers’ Superannuation Fund, remuneration, employee benefits, global mobility and organisational effectiveness teams.
  • Workplace Advisory Group, which includes legal, workers compensation and Occupational Health & Safety teams.

The business unit Human Resources teams provide strategic advice and support to help the business units meet their outcomes. These teams work closely with the business units to understand their Human Resources needs and collaborate with the specialist Human Resources areas to provide appropriate solutions.

Institutional Banking & Markets 


Institutional Banking & Markets is responsible for the provision of products and services to the Commonwealth Bank’s major corporate and government clients to optimise the client’s capital structure and related financial flows. This is achieved through the origination, structuring and execution of on and off balance sheet products that are enhanced through the efficient application of taxation, accounting, risk and capital management technologies.

Institutional Banking is the primary face to the market for all complex financing and advisory functions for the Commonwealth Bank’s corporate and major government clients.

The Markets team is responsible for all of the activities associated with financial markets, and works closely with Group Liquidity to manage the Commonwealth Bank’s overall positions in these markets on a day-to-day basis.

Marketing and Communications 


Marketing & Communications brings together our marketing, sponsorship, employee communication, media and public relations and brand and customer insights teams to provide strategic support and advice to the business.

There are four key areas of the business:

  • Brand, Marketing and Advertising
  • Media, PR and Communications
  • Research and Analytics
  • Community, Reputation and Sponsorship

Retail Banking Services (RBS) 


Retail Banking Services delivers customised services to meet the financial needs of our retail customers. The 20,000 strong Retail Banking team is the face of the Commonwealth Bank to many Australians. The end-to-end business brings together teams in branches, call centres, area offices, third party banking and support office functions.

Retail Banking Services is organised into three core disciplines – Products, Sales and Support.

The Product area is divided into two teams which are accountable for delivering customer-focused, flexible and easy to understand products:

  • Retail Products – Responsible for lending products, including home loans and investment loans, personal loans and management of wealth management products.
  • Credit Cards – Responsible for development and delivery, awards and business development, loyalty and card analytics and product integrations.

Sales functions are divided into three teams:

  • Branch and Personal Relationship Banking - Responsible for branch operations, ATMs and all associated projects and changing initiatives across the branch network.
  • Group Sales and Service – Responsible for providing leadership support for the implementation of the sales and service tools and processes across the Commonwealth Bank.
  • Third Party Banking – Includes sales and service support for all mortgage business placed with us via Mortgage Brokers and Mortgage Innovation Managers.

The Support divisions include:

  • Strategy – Responsible for identifying and exploring areas for growth and improvement across the Retail Bank and prioritising investment opportunities.
  • Direct Channels and Operations - Responsible driving initiatives that impact Direct Banking, Online Banking and Collections and Credit Solutions.

Risk Management 


Risk Management is responsible for developing risk frameworks to allow the Commonwealth Bank to take conscious exposures to credit, market, operational, compliance and insurance risks within a Board-approved appetite.

Risk Management also ensures the Commonwealth Bank has appropriate strategies and frameworks in place to assess, manage and report on credit, market, operational, compliance and insurance risks.

Risk Management has created a strategic framework to align our focus for change over the next two to three years to achieve the Commonwealth Bank’s vision 'to be Australia's finest financial services organisation through excelling in customer service'. It comprises a simple aspirational statement underpinned by four priority areas.
