Colonial First State Global Asset Management (CFSGAM)

Financial Services (Finance)

If you’re a natural with numbers then an accounting career with us has your name all over it.

Launch your career by joining our Financial Services team, gain valuable experience in accounting and open the door to roles across Financial Services.

Our finance teams are looking for motivated commerce, accounting and business students who are interested in learning to provide financial support to our Board, vast number of businesses and shareholders. The finance teams work closely with all areas of the Bank and assist in setting the overall strategy. The team consists of a range of finance professionals including:

Performance measurement

Helping the Bank to understand and manage the performance of its various businesses.

Advice

Advising each business unit about project management and consulting, taxation, decision support, management information system design and competitor analysis.

Governance

Ensuring that the appropriate levels of financial control and governance are maintained including management of regulatory projects.

 

As a Financial Services intern you may have the opportunity to be involved in:

  • Preparing monthly reports for the Board.
  • Preparing year end and half year end reporting to analysts and shareholders.
  • Preparing financial plans and forecasts.
  • Providing advice on business cases for internal projects, acquisitions and divestments.
  • Preparing regular financial reports for our large number of businesses which include superannuation, funds management, banking and insurance.

Enterprise Services (ES)

With more than 5,000 employees, our Enterprise Services team is organised into:

Specialist shared services areas

  • Service Development: responsible for architecting, designing, enhancing and building leading-edge technology solutions.
  • Service Support: responsible for ensuring we operate 24/7, 365 days a year and ensuring the stability and resilience of a world class technology operating environment.
  • Service Delivery: responsible for providing operational support to frontline sales staff through the offering of an end-to-end back office solution.
  • Governance and Group IT: responsible for decision support, policy, project and process oversight, security, risk management and compliance.

Business Unit teams
These teams provide specialist knowledge and services to support different areas of the Bank. They are responsible for ensuring the operational stability of all systems that are used by our customers and staff on a daily basis.

The business unit teams work within the areas of the Bank they support and collaborate with the shared services areas to deliver innovative and efficient technology solutions.

Risk Management

You won’t be taking a risk with your career if you decide go down the risk management path with us.

Our risk teams are looking for banking and finance, economics, accounting and mathematics (science and/or engineering) students who are interested in learning to develop and implement integrated risk management frameworks to identify, assess, manage and report risks. Our integrated risk management framework covers credit, market, operational, insurance and compliance.

As a Risk Management intern you may have the opportunity to be involved in:

  • Establishing risk frameworks, including risk policies, principle standards, methodology and measurement to ensure management of risks within our agreed risk parameters.
  • Managing our aggregate risk profile.
  • Identifying, assessing and reporting risks to the Board, Board Risk and Audit Committees, Executive Committee and to our large number of businesses.
  • Assessing the impacts of proposed changes or changes in laws, regulations and industry codes, to ensure the best outcome for us.
  • Working with the business units to achieve optimal risk and return outcomes.

Human Resources

A human resources career with us
Are you a people person? Working in human resources could be just the ticket for a meaningful and rewarding career.

Human Resources (HR) supports each of our Business Units through recruitment, employee relations, Human Resources administration, remuneration benefits, Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), project work and leadership development training.

We have a centralised model to provide HR service and support Group-wide. HR is organised across the Group into specialist areas and Business Unit HR teams.

The specialist areas focus on developing bank-wide policies and initiatives, and providing subject matter expert advice. These areas are:

  • Talent & Development 
  • Reward & Measurement
  • Workplace Advisory Group

The Business Unit HR teams provide strategic advice and support to the business units to help meet their business outcomes by working closely with them to understand their HR needs and collaborating with the specialist HR areas to provide solutions to these needs.

Institutional Banking & Markets

Institutional Banking & Markets is responsible for the provision of products and services to the Bank’s major corporate and government clients to optimise the client’s capital structure and related financial flows.  This is achieved through the origination, structuring and execution of on and off balance sheet products that are enhanced through the efficient application of taxation, accounting, risk and capital management technologies. 

Institutional Banking is the primary face to the market for all complex financing and advisory functions for the Bank’s corporate and major government clients.

Markets incorporates and is responsible for all of the activities associated with financial markets and works closely with Group Liquidity to manage the Banks overall positions in these markets on a day-to-day basis.

Corporate Financial Services

Corporate Financial Services (CFS) provides a complete range of services to business clients with net revenue greater than $5,000 and/or commercial loans in excess of $500,000. It is made up of four teams, Corporate Banking, Wealth Management, Banking Specialists and Market Specialists. CFS employs over 1,000 people nationally.

Corporate Financial Services aims to:

  • Offer the best service and best solutions to our customers
  • Deliver service and solutions across the best distribution network
  • Achieve sustainable growth

Our Corporate Financial Services team is divided into the following areas:

Corporate Banking: Corporate Banking provides financial services to the broad cross section of corporate clients. The sales and service strategy is based on a relationship management model.

Wealth Management:The Wealth Management team provides wealth management advice and services to clients across PBS.

Banking Specialists: The Banking Specialists team helps meet the needs of business clients across Corporate Financial Services. The team brings together the network sales teams from Working Capital Services, Asset Finance and Receivables Finance. 

Market Specialists:The Market Specialists team helps meet the needs of its clients across key market and industry segments including Franchising, Financial Planning Banking, Healthcare, Aged Care and Property.  The Market Specialists team is also expanding into Mid-Market Leveraged and Acquisition Finance and offering Succession Planning services to businesses.  The team works closely with Risk, Group Risk Management and other areas to ensure that its offer is market leading.

Payments and Business Technology and Business Product and Development

The Payments and Business Technology (PBT) team takes an end-to-end view of our payments products to provide a robust and competitive product offering. The team has integrated all the payment related product functions in PBS (merchant solutions, correspondent banking, transaction banking and wholesale payments), as well as the Merchant Services & Operations team, and is responsible across the Group for payments technology, payments technology innovation and payments industry representation and regulatory response. Further, PBT provide technology services to all PBS businesses.

The Business Products & Development (BP&D) team is responsible for business development initiatives and product innovation within PBS.

BP&D works with the other business leaders to develop the overall strategic direction for the business unit, ensuring we have a clear path to achieve our objective of being Australia’s leading institutional and business bank.

The BP&D team also takes an end-to-end view of the Bank’s commercial banking products to ensure they meet the needs of our business customers. Working together, the BP&D team’s role is to deliver simple and innovative products that meet customer needs, providing solutions at the right price and in a timely manner.

Retail Banking Services (RBS)

RBS delivers customised service to meet the financial needs of retail customers seeking accessible and affordable banking. The 20,000 strong Retail Banking team is the face of the Bank to many Australians. Its end-to-end business brings together teams in branches, call centres, area offices, third party banking, and support office functions.

RBS is organised into three core disciplines - sales, products and support - which support our retail banking function.

Sales functions are divided into three teams:

1.    Branch and Personal Relationship Banking - responsible for branch operations, ATMs and all associated projects and changing initiatives across the branch network

2.    Group Sales and Service – responsible for providing leadership support for the implementation of the sales and service tools and processes across the Group including sales and service training programs, reporting, Internal Customer Service Measurement, communications, reward and recognition, systems and processes.

3.    Third Party Banking – includes sales and service support for all mortgage business placed with us via Mortgage Brokers and Mortgage Innovation Managers.

The Product area is divided into two teams, which are accountable for delivering customer focused, flexible and easy to understand products:

1.    Credit Cards – responsible for Credit Card Products including Development and Delivery, Card Issuing, Awards and Business Development, Loyalty and Card Analytics and Product Integrations.

2.    Retail Products – Responsible for Lending Products including home loans and investment loans, personal loans and Transactions and Deposits including management of wealth management products.

The Support divisions include:

1.    Strategy – responsible for  the development and maintenance of RBS strategies.

2.    Direct Channels and Operations- responsible for Direct Banking, Online Banking and Collections and Credit Solutions.
