Each year, the Australian of the Year Awards celebrate outstanding Australians and their commitment to the country and their local communities – people who help make Australia an amazing place to call home. The Awards recognise outstanding Australians across four categories:

• Australian of the Year
• Senior Australian of the Year (60 years and over)
• Young Australian of the Year (ages 16–30)
• Australia's Local Hero
