Every year Commonwealth Bank supports Legacy week. Why? Legacy is a voluntary organisation that provides emotional and financial support to over 100,000 families of deceased war veterans. Legacy is dedicated to enhancing the lives and opportunities of our families through innovative and practical programs aimed at:

• The protection of individuals and families basic needs
• Advocating for their entitlements, rights and benefits
• Assisting families through bereavement
• Helping people thrive, despite their adversity and loss

Ben’s story

Ben Cox was ten years old when his Vietnam veteran father died of cancer. It was at this time Ben and his mother’s relationship with Legacy began. Three years later Ben’s mother also passed away from cancer. From that day, Legacy became Ben’s family and helped nurture and develop his path to adulthood.

Legacy helped finance Ben’s secondary and tertiary education as well as providing him with the counselling needed following the loss of both his parents. Legacy also provided Ben with a ‘Legatee’ who took him on fishing trips, holidays and taught him life skills at different stages of his upbringing in the absence of his parents.
