Money Sense and Dollar Wise
Amaroo School, located outside of Canberra, received a Financial Literacy Grant for its program ‘Money Sense and Dollar Wise’. Designed to integrate into the current senior curriculum, the program will address a number of financial issues relevant to each stage of the students’ learning. Topics like saving and spending, income tax, budgeting and interest rates will be included as well as teaching students to make informed financial choices and how to develop a positive attitude towards their economic future.

Successfully Self-Employed
The Australian Technical College, Queanbeyan and Region was opened in 2008 to give students the necessary skills for entry into a trade after completing the HSC. Enrolled as Australian School-based Apprentices, the students complete on-the-job training as part of their curriculum and many of them will one day go on to start their own business. ‘Successfully Self-Employed’ is the colleges’ financial literacy unit which aims to develop the students’ future skills and knowledge to achieve their business dreams.

Life Pathways and Social Futures
‘Life Pathways and Social Futures’ is a program which aims to develop the financial literacy of Year 8 students at Burgmann Anglican School. At this stage of school many students have either found part time work, or are planning to, so it’s important they learn how to effectively manage their income. In the program, students will cover a range of topics regarding personal finance, these include developing budgets and savings plans, evaluating and justifying consumer choices, keeping detailed consumer records and devising plans to generate income.
