Financial literacy teaching resource

The Commonwealth Bank Foundation believes helping young people develop financial literacy and money management skills will set them up for a more secure future.

The National Financial Literacy Curriculum Resource is a free set of educational materials that helps teachers to improve their students’ skills in managing their finances. It comprises 12 modules which have been mapped to the Year 7-10 curriculum in each state and territory. Click on your state or territory above to access the materials.

 

Past programs

The Commonwealth Bank Foundation has supported education and financial literacy since 2003. Past programs include:

• The Australian Financial Literacy Assessment helped teachers assess their students’ financial literacy skills. It was available from 2005 to 2008. You can read reports on the program’s results online and download past papers.
• From 2004 to 2008, the Commonwealth Bank Foundation invested more than $1.75 million in Financial Literacy Grants to Australian secondary schools. These grants have been replaced with the StartSmart program.

 

Educational websites

The Commonwealth Bank also provides educational websites for young children and teenagers:

• Coinland is a safe virtual world where children aged 5–10 years can learn about the benefits of earning, saving and investing money. More info.
• OneMillonKids is designed to do nothing less than to educate more than 1 million Australian school children in financial literacy by 2015.
