StartSmart

The Commonwealth Bank Foundation’s award winning StartSmart program changes the way young people learn about money. By making money management interactive, engaging and fun, we give students the confidence and competence to make smart decisions about money. Developing these skills from a young age ensures lifelong sound habits.

Delivered by world-class professional facilitators, and created in close consultation with leading education experts, our StartSmart sessions are high energy and are designed to inspire and motivate students. We offer StartSmart sessions to primary and secondary students across Australia.

We reach over 200,000 students each year through our StartSmart workshops, making it the largest program of its kind.

StartSmart sessions are delivered free of charge and do not promote the products or services of the Commonwealth Bank.

 

StartSmart Primary Program

The StartSmart Primary Program is offered throughout the school year to primary students in metropolitan areas, with tailored workshops available for Stage 1, 2 and 3 classes.

Our exciting characters ‘Gobbles the Wallet Monster’, ‘Coach Cash’, and ‘Captain Super Cents’ take students on an adventure in new money skills, learning things such as:

• Identifying and understanding currency
• Thinking about the difference between ‘wants’ and ‘needs’
• The importance of saving and budgeting
• How to shop around for the best deal

StartSmart Secondary Program

The StartSmart Secondary Schools Program is offered throughout the school year to students in Years 9 to 11 in metropolitan areas. It features four modules:

• SmartEarning: Getting your first job, paying tax and understanding financial documents
• SmartSaving: Money saving strategies and setting personal goals
• SmartSpending: Becoming a discerning consumer, managing mobile phone debt and recognising hidden costs
• SmartInvesting: Different types of investments including risk profiling and exploring the value of each

 

StartSmart Rural Workshops

Several times each year, our facilitators hit the road to deliver StartSmart to schools in up to 200 regional locations around Australia. 

Presenting content from both our primary and secondary program, we are committed to offering StartSmart to as many students throughout rural Australia as possible. Dates and location details are available through our website.
