Commonwealth Bank response to Federal Court decision

29 September 2000

The Commonwealth Bank today expressed its disappointment at the decision of the Federal Court to issue a temporary injunction pending a final hearing by the Court.

Naturally, the Bank will comply with the Court orders. However, the Bank is concerned that its staff will be denied the opportunity to accept an AWA should they wish, particularly as this choice is provided for under the Workplace Relations Act and under a specific provision of the Bank's current EBA with the Union.

The Bank disputes the preliminary view that information provided to its staff on the workplace agreements may have been misleading.

The Bank will continue negotiations with the FSU to reach a sensible commercial outcome on the EBA.
