CommSec Achieves Daily Trading Record

30 November 2004

Australia’s leading online broker, CommSec, has set a new client trading record this week, achieving its highest ever day of trading on Monday, followed by a near record on Tuesday, 30 November.

CommSec recorded 28,237 trades on Monday, 29 November, worth more than $248 million. Previously the highest number of daily transactions was 27,337, which was recorded on 1 September, 2003. On Tuesday, trading through CommSec remained very strong, again breaking the old record with 27,829 trades worth more than $230 million recorded.

"This new record and the continuing brisk trading highlight the current confidence in the market," said CommSec General Manager, Michael Blomfield.

"CommSec has only exceeded 27,000 trades four times in our history – including twice this week - and this is the first time we’ve cracked the 28,000 mark.

"According to our CommSec Equity Research team, there are a number of indications that this trend will continue in the months ahead.

"The Australian economy remains in good shape. Companies continue to record good profits and remain upbeat about earnings growth over the current financial year.

"Economic forecasts and the growing number of trades placed through CommSec all indicate that it’s a great time to get into the sharemarket," Mr Blomfield said.

To register with CommSec, simply call 13 15 19 between 8am and 7pm Monday to Friday.
