Sydney, 6 August 2009: Commonwealth Bank has been awarded five stars in recognition of its comprehensive branch and ATM network by major industry researcher, CANSTAR CANNEX.
Head of Research, Product and Strategy for CANSTAR CANNEX, Steve Mickenbecker, said it selected Commonwealth Bank for ‘Most Comprehensive Branch Network’ and ‘Most Comprehensive ATM Network’ in recognition of the Bank’s reach and accessibility to customers
“We measured the proximity of bank branches and ATMs to homes and found 87 per cent of Australians live within five kilometres of a branch and 90 per cent live the same distance away from an ATM owned by Commonwealth Bank,” Mr Mickenbecker said.
“The Commonwealth Bank won both awards for the Most Comprehensive Branch and ATM Networks but it wasn’t simply a case of the bank which has the greatest number of branches and ATMs that automatically wins the prize. We looked at many other factors such as user-friendly process improvements and functionality.”
The Commonwealth Bank’s 1,000 plus branch network was cited as having the greatest customer reach while other features taken into account included:
“We were impressed by Commonwealth Bank’s response to consumer demand,” Mr Mickenbecker said. “Its branches offer a high degree of access on both days of the weekend where a full range of standard services can be performed. Also useful in reducing queues are the self-service coin-counting machines which are now available in the main branches of the Commonwealth Bank.”
According to Ross McEwan, Group Executive of the Commonwealth Bank’s Retail Bank, the CANSTAR CANNEX awards recognise the Bank’s commitment to offering customers accessibility and choice in how they do business with the Group.
“With one of Australia’s largest branch and ATM networks of any bank nationally, we are committed to ensuring our customers have access to our services regardless of their location. These awards are a fantastic recognition of that.”
