3 March 2010: As a major sponsor of Clean Up Australia Day, Commonwealth Bank is inviting all Australians to join local clean-up sites across the country on Sunday March 7.
Clean Up Australia Day was established by Ian Kiernan AO in 1989, and aims to
inspire people to lend a hand cleaning up their community and conserve the
environment.
According to Barbara Chapman, Commonwealth Bank Group Executive, Clean Up
Australia Day is another way the Bank is determined to make a difference in
local communities.
“Clean Up Australia Day is one of the most renowned and well embraced
environmental initiatives in Australia, with hundreds of thousands of
participants annually cleaning up their local communities by collecting and
removing rubbish,” Ms Chapman said.
“Through this partnership, we can help provide tangible, practical solutions
for Australians to help the environment and contribute to their local
communities.
“Utilizing our extensive branch network, we have aimed to make cleaning up
easier. Over 50 branches have registered sites in local parks, fields, beaches
and reserves with many hosting a barbecue for customers, friends, family and
other volunteers who attend,” she said.
Every registered Clean Up Australia Day site across the country will be
equipped with a Commonwealth Bank first aid kit, ensuring the safety of those
who give up their time to volunteer.
Business Clean Up Day is on March 2, and Schools Clean Up Day on March 5. Over
30 Commonwealth Bank School Liaison Officers will visit schools to help in the
clean-up.
Ian Kiernan AO, Chairman and founder of Clean Up Australia said the extent to
which Commonwealth Bank was getting involved was extremely pleasing.
“It’s terrific to have more Commonwealth Bank customers, staff and friends than
ever joining clean-up efforts. The Bank’s commitment to Clean Up Australia Day
is a clear demonstration of their corporate leadership and commitment to the
community.
“We look forward to a great day that will see people in communities across
Australia get together to clean up our great nation,” Mr Kiernan said.
