25 November 2010: Commonwealth Bank has responded to the Pike River Mine tragedy by enabling its 1,000 plus branch network to accept public donations to assist those families who have been impacted.
Mr Ross McEwan, Group Executive of the Commonwealth Bank’s Retail Banking Services, said he is saddened by the news and expressed his deepest sympathy for the families of the miners.
“As a fellow New Zealander, I was devastated to hear the news of the Pike River miners and my heart goes out to all the families."
“I know a lot of Australians will want to do all they can to help the families of the 29 miners – so the Commonwealth Bank is collecting donations in all our branches and has opened an account for people to make donations online.”
