Applications Open for Commonwealth Bank’s Community Grants Program

Support local children's charities21 June 2010: According to a recent survey1 of more than 1,000 Australians commissioned by Commonwealth Bank, 95 per cent of Australians believe it’s important to support children’s charities, 87 per cent believe grass roots charities are often overlooked and two in three believe local charities are struggling in the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis.

Commonwealth Bank Staff Community Fund is dedicated to helping ensure grass roots children’s charities receive the funding and attention they need. Funded entirely by Commonwealth Bank staff, applications for the 2010 Community Grants Program opened today, and will provide over half a million dollars in individual grants of up to $10,000 to assist children’s charities.

Ms Barbara Chapman, Commonwealth Bank Group Executive and Chair of the Staff Community Fund said: “The Community Grants Program is a great way for our people to make a difference to children’s charities in local communities around Australia.

“Past recipients work in areas such as early intervention programs for at-risk youth, the provision of equipment and facilities that cater for youth with disabilities and illness, nutrition programs in primary schools or respite camps for families with sick children,” Ms Chapman said.

The Fund’s Community Grants Program has contributed over $2.1 million, to more than 250 charities since 2007 - with every dollar donated by staff going directly to community charities that support Aussie kids in need.

Founded in 1917, the Commonwealth Bank Staff Community Fund is Australia’s longest running employee contribution program. The Fund is supported by 6,000 current and retired Bank staff, who make regular salary contributions to support children’s charities.

Community Grants Program applications close on 30 July 2010. To apply or for more information, visit commbank.com.au/grants
