Letter to the editor of AFR

19 December 2003

The following letter was forwarded to The Editor of the AFR correcting the misleading headline in relation to Court action taken against the Bank by the ACCC failing.

Dear Sir

I refer to the article that appeared in this morning’s edition under the misleading headline "CBA let off hook in court case".

The Federal Court of Australia found that the action taken against the Bank by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission failed. Therefore, there was no question of the Bank being let off the hook – it was never on it.

Given the reputation of the Australian Financial Review, I would expect that it could at least get the simple facts right when reporting. I would appreciate the correct position being reported to your readers.
