At the Commonwealth Bank (the Group) we value, respect and leverage the unique contributions of people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, to provide exceptional customer service to an equally diverse community.
Our approach to diversity is linked with our vision to be Australia’s finest
financial services organisation through excelling in customer service.
Diversity is an integral part of our culture, values and the way we do
business, with significant benefits. The more effectively we resonate with the
communities we represent, the more successful we will be.
We have a long history of supporting our employees, and we’re proud of the
diverse culture this has fostered. Creating and maintaining an inclusive
and collaborative workplace culture will provide sustainability for the
organisation into the future.
Our approach is underpinned by our Diversity Policy and comprehensive Diversity Strategy, endorsed by our Board and Diversity Council, as well as a range of supporting policies.
We established our Diversity Council in 2006. It is chaired by our CEO and
includes all our Executive Committee
members. They meet at least quarterly to discuss the diversity strategy and
progress towards our objectives.
The Group’s commitment to diversity extends to all areas of our business. We
cast a diversity lens over all our people practices including recruitment,
talent development, skills enhancement, appointment to role - including Board
appointments, retention of employees, mentoring and coaching programs, flexible
work and leave arrangements, succession planning, and the Group’s relevant
policies and procedures.
Our diversity strategy rests on four key focus areas. The aim of our strategy is to leverage the unique backgrounds, perspectives and experiences of our people, by providing everyone with the opportunity for development in a safe and caring environment. Leveraging the diversity of our people ensures we can provide excellent customer service to an equally diverse customer base.
We have set measurable objectives for the four key focus areas and we track our
progress:
We are proud to own an important collection of maps recording the European discovery of Australia’s coastline.
