Protecting your EFTPOS terminal from skiming

With EFTPOS skimming fraud on the increase in Australia, it’s essential that you know how to protect your EFTPOS terminal to ensure that your transactions remain safe and secure.

Ignoring the threat of EFTPOS skimming could have a devastating impact on your business. It could potentially result in the loss of customers and damage to your business’s reputation and credibility.

Criminals have a number of sophisticated ways of capturing confidential card information to steal money from your customer’s accounts. It is important that you have the right safeguards in place to help prevent and detect this type of fraud.

Safeguard Against Skimming

The Australian Payments Clearing Association (APCA), the payments industry self-regulatory body, together with the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Crime Commission and the NSW Police, have produced two videos to provide you with information on what skimming is and how it occurs, including tricks of the trade used by criminals to get modified terminals into a store. The videos also show you simple things that you can do in your job every day to help prevent and detect skimming.
