In July 2006, we condensed all of our key behaviours to just one goal: Trust and Team Spirit. This goal is
supported by five easy ways to understand behaviours that give us a framework to shape: how we interact
with each other; how we manage our teams and; how we work together in a culture that strives for high
performance. Our five behaviours are:
Collaboration - this is about working as one team to meet the needs of our people, our customers and our business.
Accountability - is about our leaders providing clear accountabilities and authorities and empowering our people, and everyone using those accountabilities, authorities and empowerment.
Recognition and reward - is about actively recognising and rewarding each other's achievements.
Engage in development - is about our leaders engaging in, providing and acting on development opportunities and coaching our people. It's about our people engaging in and acting on those development opportunities and accepting coaching.
Simplicity - is about everyone practising simplicity in everything we do so that it's easier for all of us to work together and we make it easy for our customers to do business with us.
Building a culture of Trust and Team Spirit is essential to achieving our vision. When we trust each
other and work together as one team we are more likely to feel engaged, passionate and valued, and we
are more likely to provide our customers with a service experience they will appreciate.
There is no such thing as a typical Commonwealth Bank employee. Personal skills, experience and
potential are much more important to us than recruiting to a set formula. However, there are a number
of core skills and behaviours we look for in our people.
Integrity and trust - we expect you to act ethically and responsibly, and gain the trust and respect of others.
Customer focused - you understand the importance of delivering great customer service.
Results focused - you possess sound business acumen, or are committed to developing it, and know how to create value and deliver results.
Job knowledge - you are technically proficient and experienced in the area of employment you seek.
Effective communication - you interact with others in a clear way that builds understanding and commitment.
Relationship building - you are able to develop productive working relationships with others; you respect and value diversity in people, and can take advice as well as give it.
Flexibility - you have the ability to grasp new ideas and concepts and adapt to change quickly.
Motivation - you have drive and enthusiasm, and can support, motivate and inspire others.
In today's leaner, flatter organisations, including the Commonwealth Bank, a career is not only about moving
up the corporate ladder. Career success includes lateral moves to build skills, rotational assignments,
project work and retraining. You will be expected to take control and manage your career, which includes:

Identifying your career goals.

Investigating development options.

Creating visibility through good performance.

Proactively seeking feedback from your team, peers or manager.
