Do Commonwealth Bank American Express® Card transactions qualify me for my Gold Awards or Platinum Awards complimentary insurances?
Transactions on your Commonwealth Bank American Express Card are treated in exactly the same way as MasterCard® or Visa transactions for the purposes of eligibility for all of your complimentary insurances.

And your MasterCard card or Visa card lets you enjoy the convenience of worldwide acceptance at over 30 million locations, so you can earn points in more places. Is the ability to earn more points just an introductory offer?
No. Your Commonwealth Awards American Express Card lets you earn more Awards points every time you use it, up to the limit of your points cap.

Will I have separate statements for each card?
No, you will only receive one statement showing individual transactions made on your Commonwealth Bank American Express and MasterCard card or Visa card. If you’ve registered with NetBank you can view your statement online and opt-out of receiving paper statements.

How can I maximise the number of points I earn?

Points earned on both cards go into the same account and are added together. You can maximise the points you earn by using your Commonwealth Bank American Express Card. And earn points at over 30 million locations worldwide with your MasterCard card or Visa card. Remember, using your cards with bonus partners helps you earn even more points.

Can I set up Autopay to pay off my monthly credit card balance using the Commonwealth Bank American Express Card number?
No, you cannot make a payment to the Commonwealth Bank American Express Card. Only the your MasterCard card or Visa card can be used for Autopay.  However, if you set up Autopay on your MasterCard or Visa the auto payment will cover the transactions and amount owing on both cards, as both cards operate as a single account.

Does the way I redeem Awards points change with the introduction of the Commonwealth American Express Card?

No. The way you redeem Awards points, and the range of rewards you can redeem for haven’t changed at all. You can now earn points faster with your new Commonwealth Bank American Express Card. At the same time your Awards MasterCard or Visa gives you acceptance at over 29 million locations worldwide, so you earn points in more places.

Will I always be able to earn more Awards points with the Commonwealth Bank American Express Card?

Yes. Your Commonwealth Bank American Express Card lets you earn more points for every $1 spent, up to the limits of your points cap. 

Yes. Your Platinum Awards American Express Card lets you earn triple points for every $1 spent, up to the limits of your points cap. 

Yes. Your Gold Awards American Express Card lets you earn double the points for every $1 spent, up to the limits of your points cap. 

Yes. Your Awards American Express Card lets you earn 50% more points for every $1 spent, up to the limits of your points cap.

Is this a traditional American Express charge card?

No. The Commonwealth Bank American Express Card is a credit card.


Will I have the same credit limit for both cards?
Yes, you’ll have one credit limit that’s accessed by both cards. Your credit limit can be found on your Schedule of Particulars, on your monthly statement, or you can view it online by logging onto netbank.com.au.


Why can’t I get the additional points on my MasterCard card or Visa card?
Our partnership with American Express gives us the ability to give our customers more points for transactions on Commonwealth Bank American Express Cards. Remember you still earn 1 point per $1 spent on your MasterCard card or Visa card.
