What you need to apply for a credit card

Who can apply for a credit card?

To apply for a credit card you must:

  • Be 18 years old or over
  • Meet our credit criteria requirements
  • Be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, have a current visa to visit Australia as a student, or have a current visa to work in Australia and be employed


What you’ll need to apply for a credit card

To complete your credit card application you’ll need to provide details of:

  • Your gross annual income
  • Your employer's name and address
  • Your own home if you have one (estimated value, amount owing on the property)
  • Any existing loans (investment property loans, personal loans, leasing, credit and store cards)
  • Any savings, investments and cheque account numbers and balances
  • Any assets or investments (value of property, shares, car, furniture and other assets).
  • If you’re a new Commonwealth Bank customer you may need to supply Proof of Identification documentation, such as a drivers licence. This can be done at any Commonwealth Bank branch
