MasterCard PayPass

How does MasterCard PayPass work?

A Commonwealth Bank credit or debit card with PayPass looks just like any other MasterCard, apart from a small PayPass logo in the top right corner. A special antenna is built into the plastic to securely transact with the reader.

How do I use PayPass?

With PayPass, you won't need to swipe your card or give it to a cashier. Simply let the cashier know that you want to use it, then with just one quick tap on the PayPass reader you're done. Here's how it works:

  1. Tap your new MasterCard against the PayPass reader, instead of swiping your card or inserting it into the terminal as you always have.
  2. Listen for a beep, and look for the green lights indicating payment has been accepted.
  3. If your purchase is under $100, you're ready to go. No need to sign or enter a PIN.

If your purchase is $100 or over, you'll still need to provide a signature or PIN as you would with any other credit or debit card.
