Adding an additional cardholder is an easy way to share the convenience and accessibility of your Commonwealth Bank card with a loved one, without opening a new account.
You can add an additional cardholder to your credit card account at any time, as long as they are 16 or older. They’ll get a card in their own name but with your account number.
Your additional cardholder can do most of the things you can do as the primary cardholder.
They can make purchases, take out cash advances and set up regular payments. They can also make payments on the account or check the balance and transaction history on NetBank and through Telephone Banking.
Your additional cardholder can order a replacement PIN (for their card only) and order a replacement card if theirs is damaged. When they no longer need their card, they can even ask us to cancel it.
At the same time, it’s still your account. So if your additional cardholder orders duplicate statements, those statements will be sent to your address. We’ll also need your permission before faxing them a statement.
And if they report their card lost or stolen, we’ll put a stop on the account, which means your card will be affected too. Then you’ll need to contact us to set up a replacement account and reissue both your cards.
If you have a Low Fee, Low Fee Gold, Low Rate or Low Rate Gold credit card, you can enjoy the convenience of an additional card for a family member or friend at no extra cost.
If you have an Awards, Gold Awards, Platinum Awards or Diamond Awards credit card, adding an additional cardholder will cost $15 a year.
Before you set up an additional cardholder, it’s important to understand that they:
1. Fill in an Additional cardholder application (PDF 552kb). (If you can’t print it, call us on 13 2221 and we’ll mail you a copy.)
2. Either:
3. If they’re not already a Commonwealth Bank customer, your additional cardholder will need to visit a branch with you so we can identify them. They should bring photo ID, such as a passport, drivers licence or proof of age card. Alternatively, they can fill in an Identification form (PDF 140kb), which you can take into a branch for them.

You can now transfer your balance from another financial institution or store-issued credit card in NetBank.
