Using your credit card overseas

Commonwealth Bank credit cards are accepted in over 29 million locations around the globe, making them the perfect travel companion.

MasterCard & Visa

If you have a Commonwealth Bank MasterCard, you can withdraw cash advances and obtain balances from any ATM displaying the MasterCard and/or Cirrus logos, and from any merchant terminal displaying the Maestro logo.

If you have a Commonwealth Bank Visa card, you can withdraw cash advances and obtain balances from any ATM displaying the Visa or Plus logo, and from any merchant terminal displaying the Visa or Visa Electron logo.

Of course, both credit cards can also be used for purchases at any of the millions of merchant outlets that accept them worldwide.

Credit cards with linked accounts

If your credit card is linked to your primary savings or cheque accounts, you can access these funds with your Commonwealth Bank MasterCard or Visa card through any ATM overseas that displays the MasterCard, Cirrus or Maestro logos (except in Europe).

Unfortunately, when in Europe, you can only use your credit card to access your Commonwealth Bank credit card accounts. Even if you select your savings or cheque account when transacting at an ATM or merchant terminal, a withdrawal will be treated as a cash advance on your credit card. To access your transaction or savings account overseas, ensure the accounts you wish to access are correctly linked to your keycard before you depart.
