To make your application process quick and easy, you can use our handy checklist
to help you prepare the documents you need to provide. All documents can be
copies, unless stated otherwise.
These documents will be required to complete your application, but won’t be
necessary when filling out the online 5 min application.
Quick links:
Identification
If you’re an existing customer you’ll require one of the following:
- Commonwealth Bank Keycard/credit card/passbook
- Photo identification (eg driver's license)
- Your Telephone banking password
If you’re a new customer you’ll require one of the following:
Original or certified copies only:
- One Primary Photographic Identification Document
- Two Primary Non-Photographic Identification Documents
- One Primary Non-Photographic and One Secondary Identification Document
Examples of these may include:
Primary Photographic Identification Documents
- Passport
- Australian driver’s licence
- Proof of age card or birth card issued in Australia
Primary Non-Photographic Identification Documents
- Birth certificate
- Citizenship certificate
- Pension card issued by Centrelink that entitles financial benefits
Secondary Identification Documents: (Must show your name and residential
address)
- Foreign driver’s licence
- A recent notice issued by the Australian Tax Office
- An electricity, gas or council rates notice showing details of any service
provided to you
Certified Copies of Identification
The law permits certain Prescribed Persons to certify copies of original
identity documentation to allow the Bank to verify your identity. For more
information on the Certified Copies process or for a complete list of people
who can certify copies of identification, call 13 2221 or download the Certified
Copies Identification.

Income
If you earn a wage or salary:
Your two most recent electronic pay slips (less than 60 days old) which show
both the employer’s and employee’s name and required income details.
OR any two of the following:
- Most recent PAYG Payment Summary
- Current employment contract detailing income and salary
- A letter from your employer outlining how long you've been employed and
your income details
If you’re a contractor you’ll need:
Your most recent employment contract, with income details.
If you’re self-employed you’ll need:
Your 2 most recent years Personal/ Business Income Tax Returns and Tax
Assessment Notices, no more than 24 months old.
If your Tax Returns and Tax Assessment Notices are greater than 24 months
old, you must still provide them along with either one of the following:
- Internal management accounts supported by Business Activity Statements
(BAS) for the last 12 consecutive months verified by the Australian Tax Office
(ATO); or
- Draft or final financial statements prepared by an accountant.
If you’re self-employed and applying for a Low Documentation Loan you’ll
need:
- To have been registered for GST and self-employed in the same industry for
a minimum of 12 months
- Your ABN and/or Certificate of Incorporation and your Business Activity
Statements (BAS) for the past 12 consecutive months verified by the
Australian Tax Office (ATO)
- To sign a Low Doc declaration which the Bank will provide you with.
Please note:
- Low Documentation loans are not available on Introductory Rate loan, 3 year
Special Economiser Home Loans and Revenue Mortgage.
- Low Documentation loans are not available to you if you are not GST
registered and are unable to provide BAS statements for income
verification.
If you earn rental income you’ll need:
Any one of the following:
- A letter from the Real Estate Agent which confirms expected rental
income
- The Lease Agreement
- Proof of rental income from your bank records or from Financial Statements
(for self-employed applicants or companies)
If you receive Government Income you’ll need:
Your latest government advice letter, that shows your income/benefit (less
than 90 days old).
Please note: We will accept certain types of government income.

Loans and savings not with the Commonwealth Bank
If you have a current loan you’ll need:
- 3 months' statements for all secured debts (where exemption of Stamp Duty
applies, 6 months' statements or original loan contract is required)
- 1 month statements for all other loan and credit card debts (non
secured)
If you have savings or investments being used for the loan you’ll
need:
Your passbooks and/or statements for the last month.

Other details
If you have a legal representative you’ll need:
Their name, address and contact details.
If you have received a monetary gift that is being used for the loan
you’ll need:
A letter from the person giving you the gift which:
- States that the funds are an unconditional gift; or
- Sets out the loan conditions/repayment terms
If you have found a property or have an existing property for
security
- If you currently own the property offered as security you’ll need a rates
notice that shows the street address and title reference.
- If you are buying a property to be offered as security you’ll need a
Contract of Sale (Offer of Acceptance in WA) and your solicitor or
conveyancer’s name, addresss andcontact details.
If you are building a home and are ready to start building you’ll
need:
- Fixed price building contract
- Original council-approved plans and specifications (to be provided to the
valuer)
If you have existing insurance on the property you’ll need:
Any insurance documents (e.g. policy schedules).
We can offer straightforward
insurance for you and your assets.
During our appointment, we will provide you with more information on the
options that are available.
If you are applying for a Reverse Mortgage (Equity Unlock Loan for Seniors)
you'll also need:
- Your existing home insurance policy details
