You can purchase a Travel Money Card at any Commonwealth Bank branch or via NetBank (if you are registered). There are no age restrictions and you don’t even have to be a Commonwealth Bank customer. All you need to do is satisfy the customer identification check required for opening a bank account. Purchase now.
If you purchase your Travel Money Card in NetBank, your card will be sent to you via mail within five to seven business days (delivery may take longer outside metropolitan areas). If you provide your mobile number to us you will receive an SMS alert advising when your card is on its way. Upon receipt, you will need to activate and set up a PIN for your card.
The card may be loaded using cash, direct debit from a Commonwealth Bank transaction, savings or investment account, or by cash advance from a credit card accepted by us. When you use the card, the amount of your purchase or ATM withdrawal is deducted from the loaded balance.
Simply use the card like you would a credit card. Select ‘credit’, and enter your PIN or sign the receipt. You can use the card wherever MasterCard® is accepted.
You can reload your card at any Commonwealth Bank branch or via BPAY® wherever you are, using internet or telephone banking. Simply use BPAY biller code 113167 and the 16 digit number on the front of your Travel Money Card as the customer reference number. Funds reloaded via BPAY may take two to three business days to appear on your card.
Remember, if you use NetBank with NetCode SMS security you’ll need your mobile handy the first time you reload your card via BPAY. To easily reload on the go, reload your card before you travel or make sure you’ll have global roaming activated while you’re overseas to receive the NetCode SMS. If you’re not taking your phone overseas, register for a NetCode token so you can still transfer funds online.
The minimum load and reload per currency is AUD200 or the foreign currency equivalent. The maximum load and reload per card is AUD25,000 or the foreign currency equivalent. The maximum balance you can have on your card at any one time is AUD25,000 or the foreign currency equivalent.
Your Travel Money Card is valid for three years and you can reload your card as many times as you like during this time with a currency already on your card or add additional currencies for loading. The reload fee is 1% of the reload amount. Reloads must be in Australian dollars. The total amount you may load onto your card during any 12 month period is AUD50,000 or the foreign currency equivalent.
You can load up to six foreign currencies on your card. If you have more than one currency on your card, a default currency order applies. Learn more about multiple currencies.
If you are reloading via BPAY, the reload amount will go to the first currency in the order of currencies on your card. You can change the order of the currencies on your card by logging on to the Travel Money website.
You can’t reload more than one currency via BPAY at the one time. If you would like to reload more than one currency, wait until your first BPAY payment has been processed and then move the next currency you wish to reload to highest in your currency order on the Travel Money website. You can then make another BPAY payment.
To easily manage your Travel Money Card, just log on to the Travel Money website using your 16 digit card number, CVC (on the back of your card) and PAC (personal access code).
On the Travel Money website you can:
You can call the Travel Money Customer Service Centre on (+61) 1300 660 700 (local call), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Outside Australia you can call (+61) 1300 660 700 (call charges apply), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You can also call the Customer Service Centre and use the self-service options to check your balance, change your PIN or PAC, and transfer value between currencies.
When you purchase your card, you’ll choose a six digit PAC (Personal Access Code) to access the Travel Money website and the self-service options when you call the Travel Money Customer Service Centre. You can change your PAC by calling the Travel Money Customer Service Centre on (+61) 1300 660 700, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
By providing us with your mobile phone number, you can receive SMS confirmation that your card has been loaded and/or notification of your monthly, weekly, daily or low balance (as specified by you). This lets you monitor your Travel Money Card balance. Please see fees and charges for SMS balance alert fees.
For your convenience, we issue you with two cards – a primary card and a back-up card. They have different card numbers and separate PINs. Both cards should only be used by you and not by another person.
You can use your back-up card if you can’t use your primary card (e.g. if it’s damaged, lost or stolen). Both cards have the same value and can be used interchangeably.
As soon as you receive your cards you must sign both the primary card and back-up card.
Please notify us immediately if your card(s) are lost or stolen:
Within Australia: 1300 660 700 (local call). Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Outside Australia: (+61) 1300 660 700 (call charges apply). Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If your primary card (or back-up card) is lost, stolen, or likely to be misused, or if you suspect that someone else may know your PIN or PAC, you must stop using the card and immediately notify us by phoning the Travel Money Customer Service Centre on the above numbers. We will suspend the primary card (or back-up card) to prevent further use.
You can withdraw funds from a Commonwealth Bank ATM in Australia free of charge. You can also redeem all remaining funds directly into your nominated bank account and close your card by going to your nearest Commonwealth Bank branch.
If you would like funds to be paid into a non-Commonwealth Bank account then you will be required to provide the name of the financial institution, BSB, account number and account name of your nominated account when you close your card.
