Finding lost super

Don’t miss out on savings

Millions of dollars have gone lost or unclaimed in this country as Australians change jobs and forget to take their superannuation with them. Some of this money could be yours. When people change jobs, many of us open a new super account with each employer and wind up with multiple, fragmented super funds – all of them charging fees and administration costs.

So how do you find lost super? You can check whether any unclaimed super belongs to you by using the Australian Taxation Office’s (ATO) free SuperSeeker tracing service.

SuperSeeker searches the lost members register, which holds records for all regulated super funds in Australia (except self-managed super funds). It also searches superannuation holding accounts, the unclaimed super register and other ATO records. If SuperSeeker encounters a possible match, it will give you the account and contact details of the fund that may have your lost super. You can then contact the super fund to discuss what you’d like to do with those benefits.

Unfortunately Commonwealth Financial Planners cannot find your lost super, however if you’ve found lost super through the ATO, and you’d like some advice on how to consolidate your superannuation accounts, and maximise your savings, you can use our online booking form to organise an initial, no-obligation consultation with a Commonwealth Financial Planner and start planning for a better life today.
