Top rated insurance web site celebrates first anniversary

The Commonwealth Bank Group's fast-growing interactive online general insurance site,, is celebrating its first birthday, having more than doubled policy sales in the last six months and being highly rated in e-commerce rankings of Australia's general insurers.

Launched on 13 March 2000, the web site has recorded strong growth in demand for its immediate online quotes and policy purchase for home, contents and personal valuables insurance. Importantly, in a marketplace littered with visitors but little else, the fledgling insurer has converted 'surfers' into buyers.

Executive Director of Commonwealth Insurance, Ms Lyndell Fraser said Comminsure's policy quotes and sales had both more than doubled in the last six months. "People have discovered and embraced's easy and fast online quotes and policy cover, which can be completed in the one online visit.

"As well as saving time, customers can also save money with discounts of up to 15% simply by purchasing their general insurance policy at the site. Payments can be made annually, or monthly at no extra premium cost. Customers can also celebrate's birthday with us, as they'll receive a Dstore $25 gift voucher for new insurance policies purchased online by 31 March 2001.

"Our pricing is extremely competitive, the site is user-friendly, new products have expanded the range of policies available, our special offers have proven very popular, and there's more in the pipeline," Ms Fraser said.

Although only a year old, Commonwealth Insurance was one of the first companies in Australia to offer online insurance quotes, coverage and payment facilities.'s online policy information, quote and policy purchase facilities were each top-rated in the Deloitte's e-commerce rankings of insurers in Australia in November 2000. offers:
