"This is good news for electricity customers in Queensland and for our growing online banking customer base who will now have the ability to receive, view and pay their bills using NetBank," Executive General Manager, Business Development, Bernadette Fifield said.

NetBank has experienced rapid growth over the past 12 months and now has over 1.9 million customers. Overall the Commonwealth Bank has over 2.9 million online customers.

Commonwealth Bank is the first bank to enable its customers to view bills by BPAY View and the first bank to provide BPAY View services to billers such as Ergon. Other banks, building societies and credit unions are expected to introduce BPAY View in the future.

"More than 8,600 billers accept BPAY as a payment method, giving Australians a convenient way to pay their bills. The rapid growth in billers utilising BPAY has been a result of them recognising the convenience of BPAY to their customers."

"With BPAY View our customers can access, review and pay their Ergon Energy bills faster and more easily than with paper bills. Ergon Energy customers can view their bill, review current and outstanding account balances and access full bill details from the convenience of their NetBank site," added Ms. Fifield.

"Ergon Energy is delighted to be the first Electricity Company to go live with BPAY View. Our customers in regional Queensland are already enjoying BPAY services, which is growing at 5% monthly. BPAY View offers the ease and convenience of accessing Ergon Energy bills via the Internet and paying the bill at the same time. BPAY View is fast and removes the need of visiting the bank or an Ergon Energy office," Marketing Manager Interactive & Relationship, Alexandra McCall said.
