Commonwealth Bank supports Tsunami appeal

The Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Bank, Mr David Murray today announced that the Commonwealth Bank would join with the Australian Red Cross and donate $250,000 to the international relief appeal for victims of the earthquake and Tsunami. At the same time, the Bank has opened its 1,000 strong branch network, Australia wide to collect donations for the appeal.
Mr Murray said, "At this time of distress for many Australians and for our near neighbours, the community clearly wants to join together and help in whatever way they can. I am pleased to join with the Red Cross and to help raise funds to assist those affected by this terrible incident".

Mr Murray said that the Bank is attempting to account for any staff on leave who were visiting the affected areas and is also supporting staff who have come from those areas if their families have been affected.
Mr Murray expressed his sympathy for the families and communities affected by the incident.
