National search to find road train drivers

15 November 2006

The Opportunity of a Lifetime!

The Commonwealth Bank, The Australian Women’s Weekly and the Today Show have launched a national search to find a couple to drive a purpose-built 12-metre prime mover and trailer to travel around regional Australia in 2007, called ‘On the Road’.

On the Road is looking for a vibrant couple to drive the road train over 25,000 kilometres through every state and territory of Australia, stopping at over 100 regional towns and special events and sleeping in the road train along the way.

The chosen couple will need current drivers’ licences (one must hold a heavy combination licence and have experience in driving a heavy vehicle), be in good health and demonstrate the enthusiasm and motivation to help make On The Road a success. They will be given an 11-month paid working holiday contract (and should therefore have no other work or parental responsibilities) to share in the fun and excitement of this project with The Australian Women’s Weekly, The Commonwealth Bank and the Today Show, whilst also experiencing a once in a lifetime opportunity.

This is a once in a lifetime experience of a real Australian road trip adventure. During a fascinating 11 months, On the Road will visit some of Australia’s most well known and remote destinations, from the outback bush to snowcapped Tasmania. We are looking for a couple who embody the Australian spirit, with a passion for the land and its communities.

Interested applicants should visit The Australian Women’s Weekly website at for application details and full terms and conditions. Applications close Monday 20th November, 2006.

The successful applicants will be announced on the Today Show on the Nine Network in mid December 2006.
