Commonwealth Bank raises its Cyclone Larry donation to $1 million

22 March 2006

The Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Bank, Ralph Norris today announced that the Commonwealth Bank would raise its cash donation by $950,000 to assist those affected by Cyclone Larry, taking its total donation to $1 million.

The Bank, earlier this week, joined with the Queensland Premier by donating $50,000 to his Disaster Relief Appeal, activated its emergency assistance package for customers and also opened its branch network to collect donations for the Premier’s appeal.

The Commonwealth Bank today pledged a further immediate donation of $950,000 to the Premier’s appeal. Mr Norris said, "After speaking to our people on the ground, to the Queensland Premier and after seeing pictures of the total disaster, we now have a better idea of the devastation and as time passes it becomes more evident that an enormous amount of assistance is required. In recognition, I am pleased to announce the Bank’s additional support for the people of Queensland".

The Bank is assisting the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal with branch collections.

Mr Norris on behalf of all in the Commonwealth Bank, once again, expressed sympathy to the families and communities affected by this disaster.
