Commonwealth Bank is up late for Christmas

3 December 2007

*Update: Find out what the latest opening hours are for Commonwealth bank branches.

The Commonwealth Bank will extend the trading hours of more than 100 branches nationally across December to cater for customer demand for financial services in the lead-up to Christmas.

Around 108 branches, up from 65 in 2006 - will operate later during December nationally, with extended trading being offered across days including 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 December.

"Strong traffic levels during December last year have encouraged the Bank to provide even more convenient trading hours for our customers this year, " said Mr Ross McEwan, Commonwealth Bank Group Executive, Retail Banking Services. "This comes on the back of positive feedback from our customers to our recent announcement of selected Sunday trading."

According to Mr McEwan, extended trading in December is about offering greater convenience to customers.

"Christmas goes hand-in-hand with late night shopping. We want to ensure that when busy shopping centre locations are open late for the convenience of customers, then so are we."

Mr McEwan said more branches in regional Australia would be open for extended trading in 2007.

"Extending our trading hours in December is part of responding to our customers and taking tangible steps to improve our service, by being there when our customers want to do business. This year we have looked at regional centres and will be offering greater flexibility outside the major cities," Mr McEwan said.

The majority of participating branches will open until 7.00pm (local time) across the period however others may only open until 5.30pm or 6.00pm on select evenings depending on shopping centre trading hours.
