Global recognition for Commsec's iPhone application

Sydney, 7 May 2009: CommSec has won the 2009 Webby’s People’s Voice Award in the category of Mobile Marketplace & Services.

The Webby Awards, an internationally acclaimed web awards program recognising global excellence on the Internet, saw CommSec’s iPhone application beat other nominees in its category which included JP Morgan Chase, American Airlines and Yahoo!  People’s Voice winners are determined by votes from the online community.

Managing Director CommSec, Matt Comyn, said he was thrilled that CommSec’s efforts to provide innovative solutions for customers were now being recognised not only locally, but by the online community across the globe.

“CommSec’s win is a fantastic accolade and a testament to CommSec’s leadership as global innovators in the mobile marketplace and services category,” Matt said.

“We were Australia’s first online broker and we haven’t stopped innovating since then, leading the market to become Australia’s first broker for iPhone.

“We are delighted to be recognised by the global online community in this way.”

David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of The Webby Awards, said that all winners embraced the Internet as the medium where they can take risks, experiment, and share new ideas.

The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 650-person judging academy whose members include David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Vinton Cerf, and Richard Branson. Established in 1996, the 13th Annual Webby Awards received over 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide.
