Commonwealth Bank Group appointment

The Commonwealth Bank Group today announced the appointment of Annabel Spring as Group Head of Strategy. 

Ms Spring’s most recent position was Managing Director, Head of Global Strategy and Execution for Morgan Stanley in New York. She takes over from Ian Narev who was recently appointed to Group Executive Business and Private Banking.

The Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Norris said, “I am delighted to have a person of Annabel’s capability join the Commonwealth Bank and our leadership team.  Annabel is a high calibre executive who brings significant financial services and strategic development experience, both within and outside of Australia, to our Strategy area”.

Ms Spring has been with Morgan Stanley for nearly 15 years and has worked in New York, Asia and Australia.

Ms Spring will report directly to the CEO and is expected to commence duties in March 2009.

Annabel F. Spring

In her capacity as Managing Director, Head of Global Firm Strategy and Execution at Morgan Stanley, Annabel was responsible for strategy and execution of all Firm transactions. She has completed over 20 transactions worth over $25 billion in the last four years.

Prior to this post, Annabel was an Executive Director in Strategic Planning where she broadened the role of her team to include capital allocation methodology and funding issues. Previous to that she held various positions in the leveraged finance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance departments.

Annabel began her career at Morgan Stanley as an analyst, working in New York, Asia and Australia. She has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Economics, both with honours, from the University of Sydney and a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School, where she graduated as a Baker Scholar.
