Commonwealth Bank Sponsors 47th Australian Export Awards
16 July 2009: The Commonwealth Bank has announced its sponsorship of the Australian Export Awards for the 22nd consecutive year, sponsoring the Small to Medium Manufacturers (SME) Award.
The Australian Export Awards is a national awards program which recognises and honours export excellence through innovation and commitment across a wide range of industries.
Stephen Holden, Commonwealth Bank General Manager Working Capital Finance, said the Group’s long standing support of the Australian Export Awards demonstrates its commitment to the export industry in Australia.
“As one of Australia’s largest and most respected financial services organisations in a country where exporting is the backbone of the economy, we have a responsibility to support Australian businesses who trade overseas.”
“We are proud to be associated with an awards program and in particular the SME category that recognises Australian companies dedicated to creating innovative products and services and taking them into offshore markets,” Mr Holden said.
In 2008 six of the 13 Australian Export Award national winners were Commonwealth Bank clients, ranging from Small Business Award winner Global EARS Limited to Large Manufacturer Award winner Russell Mineral Equipment.
The Australian Export Awards are co-hosted by Austrade and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
Peter O’Byrne, Chief Executive Officer of Austrade, said that the ongoing support provided by the Commonwealth Bank was greatly valued.
“More than two decades of sponsorship confirms that the Bank understands the importance of recognising Australia’s outstanding exporters.”
“There is a great deal of prestige associated with being an Australian Export Award winner. It is a valuable marketing tool for realising new business and export opportunities. I encourage companies, large or small, with a great exporting story, to enter,” Mr O’Byrne said.
Mr Holden added that the Commonwealth Bank’s Trade area is committed to supporting companies of all sizes as they export goods and services from Australia. The strength in the business is underpinned by providing specialist advice and trade finance products to enhance the export activities of companies, ranging from small family run operations to household names.
