CommBank shares wealth of information with new consumer site

Monday, 4 March, 2013 Sydney: CommBank has drawn on its extensive spending and savings data to launch Australia’s most comprehensive consumer insights platform, Signals, to help Australians make better informed financial decisions.

As Australia’s largest bank, which processes over 40% of the nation’s transactions each day, CommBank has the ability to access and analyse more financial data than any other bank. Signals, a content-rich hub, pooled from CommBank data, will look at consumer buying patterns and trends across notable topics.

The reality is, the more information you have, the more inclined you will be to make better informed financial decisions. Signals, a visual and interactive site providing customers with spending patterns across a broad range of topics delivers on that promise,” comments Andy Lark, Chief Marketing & Online Officer, Commonwealth Bank.

Signals has a number of interactive elements which will help the user compare everyday spending,  mortgage and personal loan payments, as well as savings to others in their demographic. 

Each month, a new focus, or Signal, will be published alongside informed comment and analysis, supplemented by videos and infographics to help consumers visualise the data. Topics will cover subjects that affect every day Australians, such as eating in vs. eating out, the state of the real estate market, utility costs etc., which have been pooled from credit card transactional and research data. The first Signal focuses on Childcare and its associated costs.

How the monthly Signal data is calculated:
Topical Signal data is calculated through the collection and analysis of CommBank credit card transactional data* combined with CommBank research findings (where relevant). The data is scrutinised by a CommBank senior analyst, researcher and economist (where relevant) to ensure accuracy.

*Where possible for some topics, the data will include Debit MasterCard, EFTPOS and bank transfer data.
