NEW COMMBANK APP BEGINS ROLL OUT – REDEFINING MOBILE BANKING AND PAYMENTS

Commonwealth Bank today gave its customers access to the latest mobile banking and payments technology with the availability of the enhanced CommBank app on Android and Windows 8 platforms.

Giving customers world-class on-the-go mobile banking and payment innovations, the new CommBank app allows customers to do everything from checking an account balance with a simple swipe, to paying for groceries with a tap of their smartphone.

According to Lisa Frazier, Executive General Manager Digital Channels, Commonwealth Bank, the availability of the CommBank app transforms and simplifies the way customers bank and pay from their mobile.

“Today marks a significant leap forward in how CommBank customers can both pay and receive money and manage their finances on-the-go. Whether that’s using downtime on the bus to pay a bill; transferring the cost of dinner to a friend’s mobile number or Facebook contact; or leaving your wallet at home and using your phone to pay for a coffee – CommBank app brings speed and convenience to mobile banking and payments from a smartphone anytime, anywhere.”

Tap & Pay

From today, CommBank app also features two new NFC (near field communication) payment solutions for Android users which enable secure, MasterCard® PayPass™ payments with a simple tap of the phone1.

  1. CommBank PayTag is a sticker that attaches to the back of a customer’s smartphone and is compatible with Android smartphones and can be ordered and activated via the CommBank app for $2.99.
  2. CommBank Samsung GALAXY S4 (i9505 and i9507)2 customers can use the phones-embedded NFC to make contactless payments via the CommBank app without the need for a sticker3.

Tap & Pay is the only solution of its kind in Australia that enables customers to control the contactless functionality, selecting which account to pay from, to turning it on and off as they need.

“With our new CommBank app and Tap & Pay solutions we're in an exciting position where a mobile wallet is becoming a genuine possibility for customers,” added Ms Frazier.
