Clarification of article that appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald
23 September 2003
The following letter was forwarded to the Editor in response to an article that appeared on Saturday 20 September 2003:
"I refer to an article that appeared in your paper on Saturday 20 September under the headline "Bank sets record: 4000 jobs to go" and would like to express disappointment at the misleading nature of the headline and opening sentence.
At the Bank’s announcement on Friday 19 September, which representatives of the Sydney Morning Herald attended, and in the media release issued, it was clearly stated that the Bank’s workforce was expected to reduce by 3,700 positions between July 2003 and June 2006 and that around 25% of this reduction had already occurred.
It would be appreciated if the Bank’s position could be accurately reported in future."
