Open your account in under five minutes

Step 1
  • Already bank with us? We’ll pre-fill the info you’ve already told us so it’s speedier
  • New to CommBank? We’ll ask for info like your full name, home address and contact details then ask you to create a password so you can bank online in NetBank.


Step 2

Have either your Australian driver’s licence, Medicare card, passport or birth certificate handy. You may not even need to go to a branch.


Step 3

The Debit MasterCard® will already be on the way to you.


Step 4

Download the CommBank app to:

  • Withdraw money from CommBank ATMs using Cardless Cash2
  • Shop using your mobile with Tap & Pay
  • Pay friends using just their mobile number3


  • $4 monthly account fee will be waived if you deposit at least $2,000 per month (or $1,000 if you’re aged 21 to 24). The waiver will also apply if you’re on Student Options, under 21, or you meet certain other criteria1
  • $0 ATM withdrawal fee from CommBank and Bankwest ATMs in Australia
  • $0 personal overdraft establishment fee and no monthly interest charges or fees if you don’t use your overdraft. Read more about personal overdrafts.

  • International transactions
  • Assisted withdrawals in branch or over the phone
  • Cheques written by you.

You can apply if you:

  • Are aged 14 years and over
  • Have an Australian residential address. If you’re applying from overseas or have recently arrived in Australia, see our Moving to Australia section
  • Are opening the account in your personal names (no Company, Trading or Trust accounts – see business accounts). To open a trust account, please apply at any branch
  • Have a Tax File Number (TFN) or TFN Exemption. You don’t have to provide your TFN, but if you don’t CommBank is legally required to deduct tax from any interest earned on the account above a certain threshold.
