How the Home Buyers Index can help you

The Home Buyers Index (HBI) gives you valuable insights into how property market conditions across Australia are suited to buyers or sellers. It can help you determine when - and where - to start looking to buy a new home or investment property, enabling you to stay one step ahead of the game.

It gives you access to expert commentary on each state/territory, capital city and region and an overview of the national housing market.

Here’s how the Home Buyers Index works:

  • It compares the number of properties advertised for sale with the number of housing loans being taken out by CommBank customers.
  • If the number of properties for sale outweighs the number of mortgage commitments (adjusted for market share), it’s a buyer’s market.
  • If home loans outnumber the amount of homes available for sale, market conditions generally favour the seller.
