Helping inspirational Australians achieve even more

Every year the Australian of the Year awards shine a spotlight on extraordinary Australians from all walks of life. And while not all finalists can receive an award on January 25, their drive and determination sets them apart.

These people are making a positive difference in their communities and could, with a little help, make an even bigger difference to the lives of others around the country. As the major sponsor of the awards, the Commonwealth Bank is in a perfect position to offer that support.

That’s why we've established the Launching Local Heroes program. It's an initiative to help eight of these inspiring Australians - one from each state and territory, and all nominated for the Australian of the Year Awards 2011 - to make an even greater impact in our communities.

To do that, we've established the Launching Local Heroes panel. Made up of eight Commonwealth Bank executives, they will be volunteering their time and collective expertise to determine the best way to help each Local Hero realise their goals.
