After turning 20 last year, 2011 marks the start of Clean Up Australia Day's third decade of keeping Australia beautiful. With more than half a million people participating, Clean Up Australia Day is Australia’s largest annual environmental event. It’s also living proof that ordinary people working together can achieve extraordinary things.
As the major sponsor of Clean Up Australia Day, we're determined to make a difference in this decade and the others to follow. Every year, thousands of our people join in with local communities to help clean up the environment.
In 2011, approximately 16,280 tonnes of rubbish was collected from the 7,400 sites around the country. We would like to thank all the volunteers for their hard work, helping make this year’s Clean Up Australia Day the biggest yet.

Thank you to all schools who entered the Commonwealth Bank Schools Clean Up Photo Competition. The standard of entries for our inaugural Schools Clean Up Photo Competition was high and it was great to see so many students getting involved on the day. After reviewing all entries, we congratulate Dominic College in Tasmania, who entered the winning photo and has been selected as the recipient of the vegetable patch prize! Clean Up Australia Day is a fantastic example of the individual impact each of us can have and we thank everyone who participated this year. |
