DollarsandSense - making sense of your money

Financial literacy for life

Launched in 2002, DollarsandSense is a website developed by the Bank to help increase financial literacy amongst Australian teenagers.

The website offers young people aged 14 – 17 objective and unbiased financial management information on a range of important money management topics. These include saving, budgeting, borrowing, lending, jobs and money. DollarsandSense also features a number of powerful interactive tools to enable more informed financial decisions.

DollarsandSense was the first Australian website to map its content to the Mathematics and Business/Commerce curricula for all Australian states and territories. This makes the site a valuable education support tool for teachers.

Some of the ways teachers and students have used DollarsandSense, include:

  • The popular, "Dream Generator", where users can plot a financial course to buy a car, take a holiday or move out of home.
  • Accessing the Curriculum Library with innovative and varied activity-type lessons that are tailored to the Mathematics and Business/Commerce curricula.
  • Financial Skills Classes - exploring financial issues, budgeting and loans.
  • Budget & Savings calculators for future value calculation in Maths.
