After years of frustration at the lack of adequate holiday facilities for his
wife Desiree, who is wheelchair-bound after suffering a stroke, Alex Cochran
wanted to create a flexible accommodation concept that combined research and
state-of-the-art technology with a revolutionary design that would be suitable
for both able and physically disabled guests. The challenge for Alex was to
find funding for his ambitious plan.

Alex approached the Commonwealth Bank to help fund the project. The Bank
recognised its potential and worked closely with Alex to bring his ideas to
life. And Alex continues to work with his Local Business Banker, Alan Scamozzi,
to manage his cash flow and overdraft facility.
“It was an ambitious project and Alan has been really supportive during the start-up and developmental phases to help me get it to where it is today.”

Universal Design Project is a unique leisure facility currently under
construction in Merimbula. The project is bringing to life Alex’s aims of
providing modern holiday accommodation for people with physical
disabilities.
A holiday should be relaxing for all family members and this unique project will provide an ideal destination for everyone,” says Alex.
