No swiping, no signature and no PIN is required for purchases of under $100. It's quick and easy. Customers simply tap their MasterCard®PayPassTM or Visa payWave card against the contactless reader at the checkout, and they are ready to go.

MasterCard®PayPassTM and Visa payWave is ideal for low value purchases, where speed and convenience are essential. Examples include fast food restaurants, convenience stores, bookstores, cinemas, newsagencies, pharmacies, video stores and more.

MasterCard ® PayPassTM is already popular overseas, with 141,000 merchants and more than 50 million PayPass cards and devices issued worldwide and growing.

The Commonwealth Bank has over 2.5 million MasterCard PayPass cards on issue, and all new and reissued MasterCard PayPass Credit and Debit cards are now PayPass enabled – which means that there are around 50,000 new MasterCard PayPass cards in use every month.

Contactless payments are fast, convenient and safe. As a merchant, you are protected in exactly the same way as a standard ‘signed’ or ‘PIN-ed’ transaction. The Issuing Bank is not able to chargeback a contactless transaction of under $100 due to no signature or PIN being obtained.

Easy to Use & Install

Being able to accept MasterCard PayPass and Visa payWave is easy. All you need is our Integrated EFTPOS solution, PC EFTPOS, and a contactless reader that plugs straight into your Commonwealth Bank Ingenico pinpad. To request your reader or arrange for a terminal upgrade, just call our dedicated support team 24 hours a day 7 days a week on 1800 022 966.

Using it is just as simple.

1. Enter the purchase into your Point of Sales (POS) as usual. The amount will display on the reader screen and your pinpad.

2. One green light will start flashing on the top of your contactless reader to show it is ready for a card to be ‘tapped’.

3. Ask your customer to tap their MasterCard PayPass or Visa payWave card, against the centre of the reader, and wait for the "beep".

4. Wait for an ‘Approved’ response to display on the terminal and reader. If the amount is under $100, no signature, PIN or receipt is required.
