The following general information applies to purchases made with your relevant Commonwealth Bank Credit Card on or after the 8 December 2008. Full details of this Cover are provided in the Gold Credit Card and Platinum Credit Card Complimentary Insurance and Guaranteed Pricing Cover brochure.

Who do I contact for more information and to make a claim?

This complimentary insurance is issued by Zurich Australian Insurance Limited under a Master Policy to Commonwealth Bank of Australia. For this reason, claims and enquiries about your cover should be made to Zurich on 1800 285 189, 8am-5pm (Sydney time) Monday to Friday. Refer below for more details on how to make a claim and for a claim form.

How will I know I am covered for International Travel Insurance?

Gold and Platinum cardholders, their spouses# and dependent children# are generally automatically eligible for International Travel Insurance provided that, before leaving Australia on an overseas journey, at least:

  • A$950 of each of the cardholder’s, spouse’s and dependent children’s prepaid travel costs (i.e. costs of the overseas travel ticket, and /or airport/departure taxes; and /or prepaid overseas accommodation/travel; and/or prepaid overseas itinerary items); or
  • 90% of each of the cardholder’s, spouse’s and dependent children’s overseas travel ticket(s);


is paid for by one or a combination of the following payment methods:

  • charged to the cardholder’s eligible credit card account; or
  • the redemption of the cardholder’s Commonwealth Awards points through the Commonwealth Awards Travel Service (this does not include Qantas Frequent Flyer or Velocity points redemptions).


#In the case of the spouse and/or dependent children, they must be travelling with the cardholder for the entire journey in order to be eligible for cover.


A person who has been given a Companion Airfare Deal return overseas travel ticket is also eligible for this International Travel Insurance.

Pre-existing medical conditions are generally not covered by this insurance, however it may be possible to apply for cover for a pre-existing medical condition by calling Zurich Assist on 1800 285 189. What do I need  to take with me when travelling overseas?

Please take a copy of the relevant Gold Credit Card and Platinum Credit Card Complimentary Insurance and Guaranteed Pricing Cover brochure with you and details of any new covers or changes to covers that we may have advised you of. If you are unable to print the policy you can call the Bank on 13 2221 and request a copy of the policy be mailed to you. You must also take with you whichever of the following documents is needed to verify your eligibility for this cover:

  • A copy of your itinerary; and
  • Copies of your eligible credit card account statement or credit card receipt to confirm your eligibility for the insurance; and/or
  • A copy of the letter/statement/email confirming the redemption of your Commonwealth Awards  points through the Commonwealth awards Travel Service in full or part payment for your overseas travel ticket(s); and/or
  • Confirmation that your travel ticket is a Companion Airfare Deal ticket.


How to make a claim


To make a claim whilst overseas

Please phone Zurich Assist via a reverse charges call (+61 2 9995 2021). Zurich will need a copy of the documents detailed above to confirm eligibility.


To make a claim when returning to Australia

Please contact Zurich on 1800 285 189, 8.00am-5.00pm (Sydney time) Monday to Friday, within 30 days of returning from overseas. You will need to complete and submit a claim form to Zurich. Please also provide a copy of the documents detailed below in order to assist with verifying your eligibility for this cover:

  • A copy of your itinerary; and
  • Copies of your eligible credit card account statement or credit card receipt to confirm your eligibility for the insurance; and/or
  • A copy of the letter/statement/email confirming the redemption of your Commonwealth Awards  points through the Commonwealth awards Travel Service in full or part payment for your overseas travel ticket(s); and/or
  • Confirmation that your travel ticket is a Companion Airfare Deal ticket.
