Credit Card Complimentary Insurance Cover

Relax — we've got you covered

When you use your Commonwealth Bank Gold, Platinum or Diamond Credit Card to pay for overseas travel in advance, you can enjoy complimentary insurance cover for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children.

So whether you’re travelling for business or pleasure, you’ll have peace of mind, knowing that you’ll be covered for hospital and medical expenses, belongings and unexpected expenses.

Who does it cover?

You, your spouse and your dependent children can enjoy automatic international travel insurance, as long as you travel together for the whole journey and you either:

  • Spend at least $950 on each person’s prepaid travel costs using your Commonwealth Bank Gold, Platinum or Diamond Credit Card, your Commonwealth Awards Points, or a combination of them both before leaving Australia. Your travel costs can include tickets, airport and departure taxes, prepaid overseas accommodation, or tours and other prepaid overseas itineraries.
  • Pay at least 90% of the cost of each of the return overseas travel tickets for you, your spouse and your dependent children using either your Commonwealth Bank Gold, Platinum or Diamond Credit Card, your Commonwealth Awards Points, or a combination.

There are conditions and limits to your cover. For example, pre-existing medical conditions are generally not covered, and you may need to pay an excess on some claims. To find out more, read our Credit Card Complimentary Insurance and Guaranteed Pricing Cover brochure (PDF 374KB)

It’s worth noting that if you use Frequent flyer points to buy your travel tickets, you’ll only be eligible for complimentary travel insurance if you spend at least $950 per person on other prepaid travel expenses – such as prepaid accommodation or tours – using your eligible Commonwealth Bank credit card before leaving Australia.
