Travelling overseas

There are a number of advantages to taking a credit card overseas — they are widely accepted, enable you to make cash withdrawals at ATMs, you can link them to a debit account so you can transfer funds, and they save you having to carry large amounts of cash around.

Protect your valuables while you’re away

Losing your wallet or passport in a foreign country can pose all sorts of problems. That’s where Secure Sentinel can help. Once you sign up and register your details, Secure Sentinel can help minimise the risk of fraudulent use of your credit cards and will provide retrieval assistance for your possessions with just one call. Lost or stolen cards

If your credit card is lost or stolen overseas, you can drop into any financial institution that displays the MasterCard® or Visa sign and organise a replacement. You’ll receive a temporary card, usually within 24 hours, and have the option of receiving an emergency cash advance.

MasterCard USA: Call toll-free 1-800-MasterCard (1800 627 8372)
Outside the USA: call your local operator to place a reverse charges call to the USA and quote +1 636 722 7111. Or visit www.mastercard.com.au for the toll-free number in the region you are in.

American Express

If you lose your Commonwealth Bank American Express Card you can call +61 13 2221 or +61 2 9999 3283.

Visa

Call the 24-hour Visa Global Customer Assistance Service in the country you are visiting. You can find these numbers at www.visa.com.au.
