Market slips after subdued trading
The Australian share market has had a disappointing session after trading sideways for most of the day, as investors took an indifferent stance and shrugged off a solid lead from Wall Street.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was little changed after shedding just eight points, or 0.09 per cent, on Wednesday to close at 8,727.7, as the broader All Ordinaries edged down 8.9 points, or 0.10 per cent, to 8,894.6.
Banks and miners weigh on gains
Rises in the interest-rate-sensitive real estate, consumer discretionary, healthcare and energy sectors initially led the broader market higher, but losses in the mining and banking sectors ultimately dragged the market into negative territory.
Australian dollar edges higher
The Australian dollar was buying 69.71 US cents, up slightly from 69.69 US cents on Tuesday at 5pm.
