ASX flat ahead of RBA call

The ASX has finished flat ahead of the Reserve Bank's Melbourne Cup Day meeting, settling after reduced rate cut hopes weighed on sentiment.

Australia's sharemarket has finished the day roughly where it began, with banks and the tech sector counterbalancing losses in health care and mining stocks.

The S&P/ASX200 gained three points on Monday, up 0.03 per cent, to 8,884.9, while the broader All Ordinaries fell by 4.5 points, or 0.05 per cent, to 9,173.5.

Five of 11 local sectors finished the session higher, led by financials, IT and energy stocks, while health care companies and raw materials producers dragged on the broader market.

The Australian dollar was buying US65.53c on Monday afternoon, up slightly from US65.41c on Friday at 5pm.
