Nominations for the Commonwealth Bank Not-for-Profit Treasurers’ Awards are now open, and continue to recognise and celebrate the unsung individuals whose financial management and governance directly leads to positive and innovative outcomes for the community groups they represent.

Held in conjunction with Our Community, Australia's Centre of Excellence for the nation's not-for-profit organisations, this year, the Awards invite individuals, community groups and not-for-profit treasurers to communicate in 100 words or less why they think their treasurer should be one of this year’s winners. Submissions will be judged based on financial management; financial governance; financial outcomes and innovative solutions. The best entries will win one of four $5,000 donations for their not-for-profit organisation.

Julienne Price, Head of Not-for-Profit Sector Banking at Commonwealth Bank, said: “We continue to see immense change in the not-for-profit sector. Organisations and community groups are under constant pressure to enhance efficiency as a result of a range of factors including demographic shifts, state and federal legislative changes, stake holder expectations, increased competition, a growing demand for support and services, and of course, ongoing public and private funding challenges. What is interesting is how these pressures have given rise to a robust sector which continues to embrace serving the needs of their communities, as well as sharing knowledge and knowhow which ultimately benefits the broad Australian community.

“Strategic and operational planning coupled with creativity,  innovation and community leadership has never been more important for the thousands of not-for-profit organisations and nowhere is that more closely felt than the role of the treasurer – the person behind the scenes balancing the books and keeping the organisation healthy and sustainable.

“The Awards continue to be an important vehicle to recognise those individuals that are safeguarding the financial wellbeing of the community and not-for-profit organisations,” Ms Price said.

All not-for-profit and community treasurers nominated or taking part in the Awards will receive an official 2018 Certificate of Appreciation.

Denis Moriarty, Group Managing Director of Our Community said: “I look forward to reading the nominations and celebrating the amazing work the thousands of volunteer treasurers do every day of the week to improve the sustainability of the organisations they cherish and to help build a better stronger community sector and nation.”

Nominations for the 2018 Awards are open until 11.00am (AEST) Friday, 27 July 2018. The four winners will be announced at the Our Community Board Builder Conference in Melbourne, held during this year’s Not-for-Profit Finance Week, and running from the 17-21 September 2018.
