Today, on International Women’s Day, Commonwealth Bank’s remake of the iconic Aussie sporting anthem “C’mon Aussie, C’mon” will reach a crescendo at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), as the Australian Women’s Cricket team gear up to face India for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final.
With the original voice of composer Allan ‘Jo’ Johnston, CommBank reimagined the Mojo Advertising 1978 classic at the beginning of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in December last year, in a move to encourage all Australians to show their support for our world champion national women’s cricket team and fill the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the final.
Monique Macleod, CBA Chief Marketing Officer, said, “‘C’mon Aussie C’mon’ is an iconic piece of Australian sporting history, it became the battle cry for many Australian sporting teams over the years and has also been credited for playing a key role in the revolution of men’s cricket – we hope it will do the same for our women 40 years on.
Sian Lewis, CBA Group Executive Human Resources, said, “‘After years of perseverance for equal access and opportunity, we’re seeing more women and girls have access to sports they can pursue, are passionate about, and play at an elite level with mainstream media and public attention.”
“We know when women do well, their families, business and whole communities benefit and prosper. Whether it’s in the workplace, or on the cricket field, CommBank is passionate about creating access and opportunity for all ages, genders, cultures, and abilities.
“I couldn’t be more proud to work for a company that promotes and celebrates athleticism, skill and excellence among women in sport. I truly believe if anyone can, our brilliant women’s cricket team can.”
The campaign features female players from the past, present, and future of the sport, along with the current team, including four former captains - Betty Wilson, Raelee Thompson, Belinda Clark, and Lisa Sthalekar - and up-and-coming cricketer, Gunisha Garg, as part of CommBank’s commitment to grow the women’s game.
Australian all-rounder and CommBank Cricket Ambassador, Ellyse Perry said, “This is such a legendary song and to think that it’s now been reworked to reflect the Australian Women’s Cricket Team and other historic trailblazers of the women’s game is humbling. Jo and CBA have done an amazing job to bring this sporting anthem back to life. What a way to celebrate women in cricket and inspire more young girls out there to get involved in one of Australia’s most iconic sports.”
The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020 Final culminates today at the biggest cricket stadium in the world, the MCG. Global popstar sensation, Katy Perry will also be performing.
A full-length version of the track is being released on music streaming services, with all proceeds going to the McGrath Foundation, an official local charity partner of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020.
