Going solar

Going solar

Thirty CBA branches to have solar power by end of June 2017.

Commonwealth Bank has announced it will install solar panels to the rooftops of 30 branches by the end of June 2017 as part of our new onsite renewables program.

The Bank is more than half way towards this target, with seventeen branches across the country already generating their own electricity with more than 200kW of capacity in solar panels. A real time portal, which can be accessed here, displays data on how our network of solar branches across Australia is performing.

Some sites produce up to 40% in energy savings and 60% in cost savings.

Commonwealth Bank was the first bank to achieve Green Star accredited design for our branches and last year we became the first Australian bank to launch an onsite renewables program for our retail branch network.

The onsite renewables program is part of Commonwealth Bank’s broader plan to improve the environmental efficiency of its operations. This includes implementing our new five-year Sustainable Property Strategy, rolling out solar panels for our branches, achieving our 2020 aspirations, upgrading our data centre and a building new, sustainable home at the Australian Technology Park in 2020.
